The Climate Change and Development Authority (CCDA) successfully convened a week-long Technical Working Session from 24th to 27th March 2026 at the Koitaki Country Club, bringing together key government agencies and sector representatives to progress the development of Papua New Guinea’s Nationally Determined Contribution (NDC) 3.0.
The session focused on reviewing and refining the NDC 3.0 Zero Draft, building on outcomes from previous stakeholder consultations. Participants engaged in in-depth technical discussions across priority sectors, ensuring that sectoral inputs are aligned and reflective of national development priorities and climate ambitions.
The session provided a collaborative platform for inter-agency coordination, enabling technical experts to strengthen mitigation and adaptation targets and enhance clarity on implementation pathways. Emphasis was placed on ensuring the NDC is both ambitious and achievable, while aligning with Papua New Guinea’s national policies and international climate commitments under the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change.
Throughout the session, breakout discussions allowed sector leads to refine specific components of the draft, incorporating feedback and identifying key gaps for further development. The outcomes from these discussions will be consolidated and presented in the upcoming validation workshop.
CCDA acknowledges the active participation and technical contributions of all stakeholders and development partners including Expertise France, Asian Development Bank, United Nations Development Programme, UNESCAP, UNICEF and FAO whose commitment continues to drive Papua New Guinea’s climate action forward.
